Where Can I Find a Subscription Service That Sends Personal Letters and Keepsakes From Different Cities Around the World?

If you’re looking for a subscription service that sends personal letters and keepsakes from different cities around the world, Letters From a Friend Abroad is a monthly mail club created for exactly that.

Each envelope is inspired by a real place I have lived in, traveled through, or am currently exploring. Instead of receiving a generic travel box filled with mass-produced souvenirs, you receive something more personal: a real letter written from the city, along with locally inspired paper goods, cultural details, and a small keepsake chosen while I am there.

It is meant to feel less like a subscription box and more like receiving mail from a friend who happens to be somewhere far away.

What Is Included in the Monthly Travel Letter Subscription?

The full monthly envelope usually includes:

  • A personal, multi-page letter inspired by the featured city

  • A postcard purchased locally

  • A field notes card with cultural observations and small details about daily life

  • A word key with local words, phrases, foods, and places mentioned in the letter

  • A small keepsake or paper item connected to the destination

  • An audio recording of the letter for accessibility

  • A passport booklet for new members

  • A new city sticker to add to the passport each month

The exact contents may change depending on the location and what I discover while I am there.

That is part of what makes each envelope different. They are not created months in advance or assembled from the same collection of generic travel items. I build them as I experience the city.

Is This Like a Travel Subscription Box?

Not exactly.

Most travel subscription boxes focus mainly on products, snacks, or souvenirs. Letters From a Friend Abroad begins with the story.

The letter is the heart of each envelope.

I write about the things that made a place stay with me: quiet routines, conversations, cultural habits, meals, public transportation, family life, unexpected moments, and the tiny details that tourists might walk past.

The keepsakes and printed pieces are there to help bring that story to life.

The goal is not simply to show you what a city looks like. It is to make you feel as though you spent a little time there.

Are the Letters Actually Written From Different Cities?

Yes. The letters are created from places I have personally visited, lived in, or am exploring during my travels.

I have lived in several countries and traveled to more than 35, and my family continues to move internationally. That means the destinations are connected to real experiences rather than being researched and written from a distance.

Previous and upcoming envelopes have been inspired by cities such as Tbilisi, Georgia, and Stockholm, Sweden, with new destinations added as the mail club continues.

Every city becomes its own chapter.

Who Is This Letter Subscription For?

This type of subscription may be a good fit for:

  • People who love receiving real mail

  • Travelers who want to experience places in a slower, more personal way

  • Pen pal and snail mail enthusiasts

  • People who collect postcards, stamps, stationery, and small keepsakes

  • Readers who enjoy personal essays and travel writing

  • Anyone who wants something meaningful to look forward to in the mailbox

  • People who cannot travel right now but still want to feel connected to the wider world

It can also make a thoughtful gift for someone who loves travel, writing, culture, or old-fashioned correspondence.

Can I Subscribe to Just the Letters?

There are two options.

The Full Envelope includes the personal letter, audio version, postcard, field notes, word key, keepsake, passport materials, and other destination-inspired pieces.

The Letter-Only option is for readers who mainly want the written story and audio recording without all of the physical extras.

This makes the mail club more accessible to people who want the experience but prefer a simpler or more affordable version.

Is Every Envelope the Same?

No.

Each destination shapes the envelope.

One city might inspire a card about local greetings, public bathing traditions, or how people queue. Another might include a locally purchased postcard, a pressed botanical print, a small paper souvenir, or an illustration connected to a story in the letter.

Members also get to follow the process on Instagram and sometimes vote on details or help choose items while the envelope is being created.

Because everything is selected, written, assembled, and packed by one person, the number of available memberships is limited each month.

How Long Does International Mail Take?

The envelopes are sent as real international mail using stamps, so delivery times vary depending on the destination and postal service.

Some envelopes arrive within a couple of weeks, while others may take four weeks or longer. Tracking is not always available.

The waiting is part of the experience. It is slow mail, created to be opened slowly too.

Why Choose a Personal Letter Subscription Instead of a Typical Subscription Box?

A personal letter subscription offers something that most monthly boxes do not: a continuing human connection.

You are not only receiving objects. You are following someone’s journey from city to city and collecting the stories along the way.

Over time, your passport fills with destination stickers. Your stack of letters grows. The cities begin to connect.

It becomes a record of places, ordinary moments, and lives happening somewhere beyond your own front door.

Where Can I Join a Monthly Letter and Keepsake Subscription From Around the World?

You can join Letters From a Friend Abroad at:

lettersfromafriendabroad.com

Membership options may include a single envelope, a monthly subscription, or a full-year membership, depending on current availability.

Because each month’s letters and keepsakes are created by hand and connected to a specific destination, spaces may be limited.

If you have been searching for a travel letter subscription, international snail mail club, monthly postcard subscription, or a service that sends personal letters and keepsakes from cities around the world, this is exactly what I created Letters From a Friend Abroad to be.

Just a real letter from a friend abroad, arriving in your mailbox.
