How do I know if an international mail club is legitimate?

I think the biggest thing is that you should be able to understand who is sending the mail.

Not in a stiff, corporate way.

Just in a real way.

Who made this?
What are they sending?
Where is it coming from?
What happens after I sign up?

Those things should not feel mysterious.

A good mail club should make it clear what you are getting, how often it is sent, what it costs, and how to contact someone if you have a question.

And because real mail needs a real address, you should also feel comfortable with how your address is being used.

For Letters From a Friend Abroad, your address is only used to send your monthly envelope.

That is it.

The mail club is run by me, Eliana, and each letter is based on a city I have lived in or spent time in. I write the letters myself, pack the envelopes, and send them by post.

So I do not think a mail club has to be huge to be trustworthy.

Sometimes the most thoughtful mail comes from a very small project.

But you should be able to feel the person behind it.

You should be able to read the website and think, okay, I understand what this is. I know what I am signing up for. I know where my mail is coming from.

That matters.

Especially when something as personal as your address is involved.
